Plagiarism What is it?

Plagiarism is defined as the copying or adapting of, and passing off someone elses work as your own, with no reference to the person who originally wrote it. This, in itself, constitutes fraud.

What is your attitude towards plagiarism

It is totally unacceptable for students to pass off someone elses work as their own nowadays, what with the advent of the internet; they have many sites, which tell them if you are receiving a plagiarized version or an original version. Sites such as copyscape, turnitin, grammarley and other sites that are used to detect plagiarism. Gone are the days when a person could submit an article and not have to worry about someone finding the original copy, you can find out with the click of a mouse.  The fines for plagiarism are being reviewed each year, and is attracting more penalties. Both online and offline, I think Plagiarism is, by far, one of the most heinous crimes on the internet today, as it can lead to loss of income and lack of recognition for the person who did the work originally. People should strive to be original in everything that they do, writing is no different, and originality provides a lot more variety to the end user. If you are going to be paid for an article, which is not your own for instance, this is extremely dishonest, and should be avoided at all cost.

What are the penalties for Plagiarism in US Academic Institutions?

The penalties are being applied more and are getting more and more stringent, especially in the School district. In college we are regularly inundated with other peoples work, we see them in the text books, we hear them in lectures, we are given copies and handouts on a daily basis, and until recently, the fines and penalties were not so severe. This has changed drastically with the increased rate at which students are submitting plagiarized work in colleges. The fines now range from suspension to expulsion with students being blacklisted in other colleges they wish to apply to. The high incidence of plagiarism is becoming a perplexing trend in colleges and universities. Students are no longer with researching to do their own work, but rely solely on the work that is done by other people. Plagiarism is considered a literary crime and should be avoided by all students, or they will be made to suffer the consequences when they are found out.
